WHY BROOMFIELD GENEALOGY SOCIETY

Our aim is to make Genealogy fun and exciting.  As such, we provide opportunities and education programs to help individuals find their roots.   In addition, you can find out about the numerous resources available for ancestral research. We encourage our members to learn the proper ways to document their discoveries and share them with others.  Founded in 2001, BGS serves Broomfield and the surrounding Boulder-Denver metropolitan area.

General meetings are held the 3rd Monday of the month, February – November, unless preempted by a Monday Federal holiday. Meetings start at 6:00 p.m. (Mountain) for socializing, then a short business meeting at 6:30 p.m., followed by a genealogical or history program at 7:00 p.m. For 2023, meetings will be a combination of online, hybrid (online and in-person) and in-person only. For meeting location/venue details, please check the upcoming events below or the events calendar page.

Why join us?

Come and “Learn” with us.
Learn

Alright, let’s start with learning the ropes! In genealogy, this means picking up all the cool tricks and tools to trace your family history. Think of it as getting to know how to dig up birth certificates, marriage records, and census data. You’ll also dive into history to figure out how your ancestors fit into the big picture.

Discover

Now comes the super fun part… discovering your family’s secrets and stories. Imagine unveiling lost relatives, getting the scoop on their lives, and connecting the dots in your family tree. If you’re new to this, it’s like piecing together a puzzle of your past, using online resources, archives, and hanging out with fellow family detectives.

Share

Once you’re armed with all these cool historical tidbits, it’s time to spread the knowledge! Sharing in genealogy means telling others what you’ve uncovered with family and friends. You’ll have opportunities to share and learn with other genealogy enthusiasts. Plus, you’ll keep your family’s legacy alive by passing down those old photos, stories, and keepsakes.

So, by diving into “Learn – Discover – Share,” you’re jumping into a super cool adventure where you’ll learn about your roots, uncover amazing stories, and make friends with folks who are just as excited about family history as you are!
